DEPLOYMENT
Pathway to sustainable energy security
2025
Feasibility Phase
Feasibility and design for a pilot project strategically-installed within the Ruapehu District.
-
MOU with regional Iwi entities for the aggregation of forestry feedstock (slash and felling material).
-
Conditional agreement with a technology partner for the supply of a gasification pilot plant.
-
Provisional syngas offtake agreement with a gas processor for conversion to LPG substitute, Dimethyl Ether (DME).
-
Private capital raising for the pilot project.
2026
Gasification Pilot Project
An Advanced Chemical and Thermal Looping (CTL) pilot installation within the Ruapehu District. This proof of concept will demonstrate the conversion of forestry waste and redirected plantation stock into syngas. The ultimate goal is to assess the economic, political, and environmental viability of a nationwide, modular rollout that advances New Zealand’s Net Zero ambitions and reduces reliance on imported liquid fuels.
2027+
New Zealand-wide Rollout
After successfully proving an efficient, scalable, and carbon-negative model for converting forestry biomass into syngas with integrated CO₂ capture, a nationwide modular rollout is launched. The goal is to replace 100% of New Zealand's imported liquid fuels with sustainable, forestry-derived syngas products by 2075 — securing the country’s long-term energy independence.
ABOUT
About our Business
Energy Forest is a special purpose vehicle established by a team of experienced professionals united by a shared vision of delivering a green, self-sufficient energy future for New Zealand.
Our team combines deep expertise in finance, energy, and large-scale project delivery, with a proven track record of partnering with iwi, government, and industry for collective, long-term value. We champion a collaborative, locally-led approach — harnessing the strengths of New Zealand businesses, supported by an international network of technology and resources.
Our focus is on transforming New Zealand’s plantation forestry resources into long-term, green energy through innovative gasification technology. We’re committed to achieving a carbon-negative model, ensuring our forests meet the country's growing clean energy needs well into the future.
Ultimately, we envision a future where 100% of New Zealand’s energy demands are met by converting sustainable forestry into syngas — processed into LPG substitute, Dimethyl Ether (DME) for electricity generation and wider energy applications.
